Anheuser-Busch chose the quirky and slightly threatening penguin as its mascot for Bud Ice to target the company’s professed target market—the ‘‘contemporary adult’’ aged 21 to 34 years old. Moreover, using a bird instead of a person to promote its beer allowed Budweiser to reach across race and gender lines to appeal to a wide audience of potential Bud Ice drinkers.
